~ We had a bit of a scare this morning in that Lil Bit's right leg started to swell.
We had a 4:40pm appointment with the vet to have her wraps changed but they moved it up to
10:20 when I called. Apparently, she had laid on her leg wrong and caused the blood
flow to jam up. She does have a little bit of edema in both legs but this is to be
expected considering her injuries. The good news is that 85 to 90 percent of her many staples have been removed. She will keep the remaining sutures in until next week when she goes in for new leg wraps. She now has blue wrap on her broken leg. She is still only to walk when she goes potty outside. The vet expects her to be laid up another six weeks. When Lil Bit and I came out of the exam room, a lady with a dog waiting in the reception area exclaimed, "Oh, that must be *the dog* that was attacked!" Later, a woman came in and said, "I know who this is," and proceeded to give Lil Bit lots of ear scritches. She helped me get Lil Bit to the van which was nice. As I was taking Lil Bit out of the car and letting her go potty, she started to whine. It was obvious that she was looking at something, so I turned around with fear in my heart. A black Great Dane from up the street had gotten loose! I had heard about this dog from the kids but I haven't personally met the dog yet. The size of it caused me to have heart failure. I picked up Lil Bit and screamed at the Great Dane. It stopped in its tracks and I made a bee-line for the front door. I have never moved so fast carrying 55lbs in my life!! Oh, and what a time to tell you that she's gained two pounds. :) This is good because she was too skinny when she first came here but I need to watch that she doesn't get too heavy from all the inactivity. Anyway, getting back to the Great Dane, I just got off the phone with our block watch captains. They said their daughter followed the Great Dane all the way to Picnic Point Elementary. She saw someone pick up the dog and drive off. Most likely, it was the owners or someone who knew them. Whew! It was excitement that I didn't need. Lil Bit sends her love to everyone. |
