Mark F. McLaughlin, 44, was killed Friday, November 27, 1998 by a gunman while he drove Metro route 359. The fatal wounds caused Mark to lose control of his articulated bus, swerve from the southbound lanes into the northbound lanes, smash through a guard railing on the Aurora Bridge and crash to the ground some 50 feet below.

Mark was thrown onto the roof of an apartment building close to the bridge. A fire department aid crew tried to revive him, but he died at the scene. The cause of his death was from multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen.

Mark earned his 20 year pin with Metro Transit in the summer of 1998. He had a good record and 21 customer commendations. Everyone who knew Mark, knew him to be easy going with a wonderful sense of humor. Mark was also an avid Jimi Hendrix fan.

During a stint in the military, Mark worked as a nurse at Madigan Army Medical Center. He was a graduate of Ingraham High School. Mark is survived by his sons, Joel, 14 and Brad, 16, his fiance, Liz Crawford, and her two children. Mark is also survived by his mother, Rose, two brothers and sister, Deb.
