NEWS IN BRIEF

'Chaos and Creation in the Backyard' will be the title of the new, Nigel Godrich produced album, according to Gigwise: http://www.gigwise.com/news.asp?contentid=7028

McCartney opened Live8, with a special rendition of 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', trading vocals on the song with Bono. U2 backed the pair, along with a four-part brass band, who played the brass parts for Sgt. Pepper, and were dressed in Pepper costumes. A series of animations inspired by the SPLHCB album cover were displayed on screens in the background, and continued to be displayed into U2's set, which followed. Paul also closed Live8 with Get Back, Helter Skelter, a version of Drive My Car (dueting with George Michael), and Long and Winding Road, with a sing-along coda of 'na na's from Hey Jude.

The new tour dates have been announced (beginning September 16th, 2005), to coincide with the release of the new album. He promises to play many songs from his back catalogue he's never played live before, and all indications are that that he's also planning to also place a emphasis on brand new songs, and the new album. "There's so much", says the release (and promoter Paul Gongaware), "that we didn't see in 2002." "Fans", it says, if Glastonbury and the SuperBowl are any indication, "can expect to see another groundbreaking production." Tickets go on sale Saturday April 23rd, 2005, for most venues (on Friday for select others). Prices still to be announced. Check TicketMaster for local prices and availability. See http://www.paulmccartney.com for tour dates.

You can listen to the song, or donate to the charity by downloading it, at http://www.46664.com.

Eric Clapton organized an evening of George Harrison's music last year as a tribute to George, on which Paul, Ringo, Eric, Billy Preston, and a number of others played. The results were recently released as a 'Concert for George' DVD. See http://www.concertforgeorge.com.

Before George Harrison's death, the surviving Beatles approved the idea of a "de-Spectorized" and remastered version of songs recorded during the Get Back sessions at Twickenham studios. The results (re-mixed at Abbey Road by Allan Rouse, Paul Hicks, and Guy Massey) were recently released as 'Let It Be... Naked'. http://www.thebeatles.com has sound clips from the 'Naked' versions of the songs that you can listen to.

The remaining Fabs, plus Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison all signed off on final mix.
